THE UPSC BLUEPRINT / PRACTICE

Chapter-wise MCQs & Previous Year Questions

Use questions to strengthen understanding—not simply to accumulate scores.

QUESTION PRACTICE

A three-layer practice method

01 · Chapter practice

  • Finish one defined chapter or topic before attempting questions.
  • Answer without consulting notes; mark uncertain responses.
  • Review every explanation, including correctly guessed answers.

02 · PYQ interpretation

  • Group previous year questions by theme and demand.
  • Identify recurring concepts without assuming future repetition.
  • Distinguish factual recall from analytical elimination.

03 · Mixed timed sets

  • Combine topics after chapter-level familiarity.
  • Apply realistic timing and negative-marking awareness.
  • Review accuracy, omissions and avoidable errors together.
AFTER EVERY TEST

Record what the score cannot show

For each incorrect or uncertain response, record the topic, why your choice failed, the corrected concept and a retest date. Keep separate counts for knowledge gaps, misreading, elimination errors and time pressure.

UPSC Prelims General Studies Paper I uses negative marking for wrong answers. Always follow the current official examination instructions for the applicable marking scheme.
